Venezuelan refugee finds her way to GGC to complete college dream

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

Laura Davis was 21 years old and just two academic quarters short of a psychology degree when she had to drop everything and flee her home country of Venezuela.

Davis says it was excruciating leaving college so close to completing her degree.

“It was deeply discouraging at the beginning, but my desire to continue my education and pursue my dreams was stronger,” she said.

GGC grad overcomes childhood trauma to earn degree

It’s been a long, uphill road, but GGC history graduate Nicholas Brown is about to reach a milestone that's been a lifetime in the making.

“I first came to the campus in 2014 for a tour, and I realized that this was where I wanted to go to college,” he says.

Lois Osei’s story began a world away from Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC), but on May 9, she will complete her latest chapter when she walks across the commencement stage to receive her degree.

“I decided to make my time at [GGC] count,” she says. “I pushed myself by joining organizations.”
