Counseling and Psychological Services
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is committed to promoting intellectual, emotional, occupational, social, cultural, moral, and professional growth and development of GGC students.
CAPS strives to assist students in identifying, understanding and resolving problems in your lives while providing a safe, inclusive and affirming care setting for all. We provide timely, culturally responsive and effective mental health services to all GGC students, as well as consultation to faculty, staff and families.
What We Do
CAPS assists students in identifying challenges and developing skills that empower you to develop broader insight and create positive change in your lives. In support of the GGC's educational mission, CAPS contributes to students' mental health and wellbeing by offering initial consultation, individual and group counseling, psycho-educational workshops, prevention programming, outreach and consultation services.
Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation meeting, you and your counselor will determine which services best fit your needs. Potential options can include a referral to individual or group counseling or referral to a community provider. CAPS services are free to currently enrolled GGC students.

Frequently Asked Questions
What will my first appointment be like?
During your first appointment or initial assessment, you will be asked to complete documentation using a laptop in our waiting area. Then you will meet with one of our psychologists for approximately one hour. During this hour, the staff member will ask you questions about what is going on now, as well as some questions about your history. By the end of the meeting, you will have made a plan for the next steps you need to take to get the help you need.
Can my professors or parents find out that I am seeing a counselor?
No, your attendance at Counseling and Psychological Services is confidential as required by state licensing laws. There are some very limited exceptions to confidentiality, when your safety or someone else’s is at risk.
Do I have to make an appointment? Can I be seen today?
Simply stop by the CAPS office, call 678.407.5592 or email @email to schedule a virtual or in-person appointment.
What’s the difference between a mental health counselor and an academic mentor / advisor?
A counselor is a trained mental health professional who helps people with emotional issues, mental health issues or stress-related concerns. GGC mentors are faculty and staff members who provide academic advising through course selection and academic program planning.
Do you see couples?
