Clinical Training
Doctoral Students Advanced Practicum Training
Georgia Gwinnett College’s Counseling and Psychological Services offers an advanced practicum training opportunity for doctoral level clinical and counseling psychology students.
Trainees will have the opportunity to be involved with initial consultations, individual therapy, group therapy, workshops and campus outreach events with a diverse student body. Given that GGC is among the most ethnically diverse campuses in the Southern region, it is critical to provide culturally relevant services to diverse groups of people and help trainees gain ongoing multicultural competencies. This training program focuses on advancing therapeutic skills with a primary focus on how to be clinically effective while practicing cultural humility within a college counseling setting.
The practicum is nine months long and starts the first week of August each year. Students are guaranteed one hour of weekly individual supervision with a licensed clinical psychologist as well as a weekly one-hour didactic. A sample of didactic presentations include ethical decision making, psychodrama, career counseling, assessment and treatment of substance use disorders, therapy with LGBTQIA clients and advanced interventions.
