09-30-2024 | 12:00 PM | Weather | The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our number one priority. We are monitoring air quality in our area, and we encourage limiting outdoor activities. GGC has stopped allowing outside air from coming into our buildings. The National Weather Service says the smoke should start lifting by about noon. Afternoon indoor classes and campus operations will continue as scheduled. The Environmental Protection Agency and Gwinnett County Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials teams officials are continuing to monitor the smoke and have not detected any toxic levels of the chemicals within the smoke. In an abundance of caution, officials advise people not to be outside any longer than necessary, especially those who have conditions that cause breathing difficulties. |

All campus activities scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28 have also been cancelled. |
08-30-2024 | 08:48 AM | Crime | Sexual Battery- Theft by Taking- W Building: On 30 August 2024, at 8:48 AM, a female student reported she was in W Building around 8:30 AM and entered at the entrance facing the Residence halls. She got onto the elevator and was followed onto the elevator by an unknown light skin black male, wearing a black shirt, dreads with possible blonde tips, and he was around 5'10" with a skinny build. The male asked if she likes giving out hugs and she replied, "No". She stated at this point the male was standing behind her and he reached around and gave her a hug, then began grabbing her breast. She pushed his hands off and she tried to record a video of him with her phone, but he took the phone out of her hands and then called his phone so he could have her number. She got her phone back from him and as the elevator opened up on the 3rd floor, she exited and made her way to the bathroom. Once inside the bathroom she reported the incident. Campus police are investigating the incident Anyone with information regarding this crime are urged to call the Georgia Gwinnett College Police at (678-407-5333) or by dialing 911. Safety information: Georgia Gwinnett College Police urge all students, faculty, staff and visitors to the campus to follow strategies designed to facilitate personal safety. These strategies should always involve having a plan for getting home safely, travelling in groups when possible, remaining aware of surroundings, traveling in well-lit areas when possible, using a designated driver, taxi or rideshare, and, if the choice is made to consume alcohol, consuming it in a responsible and moderate manner. We also urge the community to report suspicious activity or individuals to law enforcement immediately. |
04-27-2024 | 05:00 AM | Crime | Lawrenceville Police Department reported an off campus incident that occurred at approximately 5:00 AM on 4/27/2024. While on routine patrol, Lawrenceville officers observed 3 black males peeping in windows at the Park 980 Apartment complex. A foot pursuit by officers resulted in one suspect being arrested and 2 other suspects running deeper into the complex. When searching the arrestee, officers located a pistol magazine, but no firearm. Lawrenceville police searched the entire complex, but were unable to locate the 2 suspects. Lawrenceville officers reported the 2nd suspect was armed with an AR and the 3rd suspect was wearing what appeared to be a ballistic vest. Campus Police and Gwinnett County Police were notified around 5:30 AM to assist. Campus police patrolled the area and used campus security cameras, but did not locate anyone on or near the campus. Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to call the Lawrenceville Police Department at (770-962-4173) or by dialing 911.
