GGC's Career Services receives Handshake Career Spark Award
GGC's Career Services is a recipient of an inaugural Handshake Career Spark Award. Handshake is a job platform many U.S. colleges, including GGC, provides for its students. GGC was one of 31 institutions out of 1,400 schools to receive an award. GGC’s Career Services won in the employer engagement category.
GGC's Dana Johnson receives Sewell Travel Award for Public Health

Dana K. Johnson, reference and instructional librarian, was awarded the Sewell Travel Award for Public Health to attend the American Public Health Association's 2023 Annual Meeting & Expo at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. This award covers the cost of APHA membership, conference registration and a stipend to assist with expenses.
GGC's Dr. Atul Saxena presents research at the World Finance Conference

Dr. Atul K. Saxena, professor of finance, presented his research on systematic risk across industries at the 2023 World Finance Conference, held at the University of Agder in Kristiansand, Norway, in August. He also discussed a research paper, served as the chair of a session on Investments, and served on the conference’s Program Committee by reviewing papers and creating sessions.
GGC's Dr. Michael Gagnon receives GHRAC Award for Excellence in Documenting Georgia's History

Dr. Michael Gagnon, professor of history, received a Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council (GHRAC) Award for Excellence in Documenting Georgia's History for his co-editing work on the publication, "Gwinnett County, Georgia, and the Transformation of the American South, 1818-2018." GGC contributors to this edited collection of scholarly essays included Gagnon and fellow GGC history faculty Dr. Carey Shellman, associate professor, Dr. David Mason, professor and Dr. Richard Cook Jr., assistant professor, as well as Katheryn L. Nikolich, ’13, history.

Drs. Binh Tran, associate professor of information technology; Karen Benson, assistant professor of information technology, and Lorraine Jonassen, associate professor of information technology, co-authored the paper, "Integrating certifications into the cybersecurity college curriculum: The efficacy of education with certifications to increase the cybersecurity workforce," in the Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research & Practice, Vol. 2023. No. 2.
Diana Gonzalez represents GGC at NACADA Conference

Diana Gonzalez, student success advisor, was selected to represent Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) at the recent NACADA Annual Conference Art Exhibition in Orlando, Florida. NACADA is also known as The Global Community for Academic Advising.
GGC's Dr. Christine Miller Divine named to list of 50 Inspirational Women Leaders

Dr. Christine Miller Divine, vice president of Information Technology/CIO, was recently named to Briefcase Coach's list of 50 Inspirational Women Leaders in Atlanta. The list was compiled based on market research and peer nominations.
GGC's Dr. Dovile Budryte presents at international conference

Dr. Dovile Budryte, professor of political science, presented at the international conference, Intersections of Oppression: Comparative Historical Analysis of Contemporary Challenges, organized by South Africa's University of Pretoria and the embassies of Lithuania and the Czech Republic in South Africa. Topics discussed included a comparison of various forms of oppression and their legacies as well as Russian aggression against Ukraine as a form of colonialism. GGC's Dr. Reanna Berry receives 2023 Emerald Literati Award

Dr. Reanna Berry, associate professor of accounting and interim chair of the Accounting, Management Information Systems and Finance department, was named an Outstanding Reviewer in the 2023 Emerald Literati Awards for the Journal of Applied Research in Higher Education.
GGC's Dr. Wenlin Michelle Huang named 2023 Governor's Teaching Fellow

Dr. Wenlin Michelle Huang, associate professor of chemistry, has been named a 2023 Governor's Teaching Fellow. The Governor's Teaching Fellows Program was established by Zell Miller, 1991-99 governor of Georgia, to provide the state's higher education faculty with expanded opportunities for developing important teaching skills. The program is offered through the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia.
