GGC’s Dr. Wei Jin, associate professor of information technology, School of Science and Technology, received a $5,000 grant from the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE). Serving as the principal investigator, Dr. Jin proposed a web-based system that allows instructors to set up auto-gradable full tracing exercises using pythontutor.com, a popular open-source code visualization tool, as the underlying system. The augmented system will help engage students in the learning process by requiring students to determine which line is executed next and what happens in memory/output before the system demonstrates the step. Of 38 applicants, Dr Jin was one of five to receive a SIGCSE grant during this particular round.
