Dr. Eugene Berger, professor of history, was selected as one of 45 fellows who will comprise the sixth cohort of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities' Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo. Fellows participate in an array of leadership development activities preparing them for leadership roles in the full spectrum of institutions of higher learning, with an emphasis on Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) and emerging HSIs. 

Dr. Kamal Kakish, professor of information technology, presented his paper, "Leveraging AI to Enhance Adaptive Learning: Personalized and Efficient Education Delivery," at the 2024 Information Systems Educators Conference (ISECON). The paper will also be published in the 2024 ISECON Conference Proceedings.

Drs. Kamal Kakish, David Kerven and Lissa Pollacia, all professors of information technology, and Stacy Jones, instructor of mathematics, coauthored the paper, “Does Modality Matter?  A Statistical Analysis of Student Performance in General Education Introductory Computing Course.” Pollacia presented the paper for the 2024 Information Systems Educators Conference (ISECON) (PDF), and the paper will be published in the 2024 ISECON Conference Proceedings.

Drs. Anca Doloc-Mihu and Cindy Robertson, both associate professors of information technology (IT), and IT majors Ammar Mehicevic, ’24, and Anh Tang, ’26, recently presented three research papers at the 25th Annual Conference on Information Technology Education in El Paso, Texas. The papers focused on the School of Science and Technology’s Technology Ambassadors Program research on developing successful technology projects for introduction to programming and outreach.

An information technology (IT) faculty and student team including Drs. Anca Doloc-Mihu, Cengiz Gunay and Cindy Robertson, all associate professors of IT, and IT majors Carina George, ’23, and Julissa Valdez-Ramos, ’26, received National Science Foundation-supported travel scholarships from the STARS Computing Corps to attend the 2024 CMD-IT/ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conference and STARS Celebration in San Diego, California.

Ashley Kauschinger, assistant professor of art, has a curated art exhibition at Atlanta's Swan Coach House Gallery called, "Sarah Hobbs: Experiments in Utopia," that runs Sept. 26 - Oct. 31, with an artist talk at 3 p.m., Oct. 19.

Dr. Alesha Harris, dean of Student Holistic Health, was accepted to attend the National Association of Personnel Administrators (NASPA) 2024 Ujima Institute, a selective program designed for African American and Black higher education professionals who aspire to senior student affairs officer roles and faculty positions.

Dr. Ricky Clark Jr., director of Student Housing, was recently elected as the state of Georgia representative on the governing council for the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers (SEAHO). 

Dr. Kara Latopolski, dean of Students, was accepted to attend the 2024 Paul Shang Institute for Aspiring Executive Officers, sponsored by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). 

Dr. Matthew Robison, associate provost for Student Affairs, has been selected by the The ACPA Foundation for the ACPA Diamond Honoree Class of 2025. The ACPA Foundation provides support for the initiatives of ACPA College Student Educators International.
