GGC's Kate Balsey features film at Off The Wall @ 725 Ponce
“Natura Artis Magistra,” a film by Kate Balsley, associate professor of film, was recently featured in the public video/art show, "Everything Is Perfect and Nothing is Perfect," at Off The Wall @ 725 Ponce in Atlanta, the largest movie screen in the Southeast. The show was supported by the Emory Arts and Humanistic Inquiry Initiative.
GGC's Dr. Dovile Budryte co-leads research workshop
Dr. Dovile Budryte, professor of political science, recently co-led the 2024 Moskowitz/Rafalowicz International Research Workshop – Property, Possessions and the Moral Materialities of Holocaust Justice. This workshop was convened by the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
First GGC participants in USG study abroad program
Dr. Wendy Perry, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction, Elizebeth Colinger, ’25, English, and Isabella Roland, ’25, history, are the first Georgia Gwinnett College participants to travel abroad for the USG Goes Global program in London. Perry taught the foundations course abroad, Exploring Teaching and Learning, while the students completed six credits that are applied to their degree programs.

Dr. Misael Romero-Reyes, assistant professor of chemistry, is one of 20 individuals selected by the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics & Native Americans in Science to participate in the 2024 Linton-Poodry SACNAS Leadership Institute.

Hannah Gil, '25, cinema and media arts production, won first place for Best Animation in the 2024 Gwinnett County Public Library Student Film Festival with her film, "Dreamscape."
GGC faculty teams win Affordable Learning Grants
GGC faculty teams recently won more than $41,000 in Affordable Learning Grants (ALG) for the development of digital materials and related research that will result in significant savings for students.
Dr. Yi Ding, professor of information technology (IT), won a $4,000 ALG Transformation Grant to revise no-cost course materials, videos, hands-on instructions with screenshots, PowerPoint slides and textual materials for the ITEC 2201 course. The project aims to enhance student success metrics, including retention rates, academic performance, passing rates and enrollment figures for programs
GGC's Dr. Kinga Varga-Dobai and education students present at USG conference
Dr. Kinga Varga-Dobai, professor of language and literacy education and chair of the Elementary Education and Literacy Department, and education majors Malena Chavac-Zetino and Daniela Valera-Tejada, presented “Service-Learning Practices in Elementary Teacher Education” at the 2024 University System of Georgia Teaching and Learning Conference, held recently at The Classic Center in Athens, Georgia.
Spring 2024 Beta Kappa Chi National Honor Society inductees
Thirty Georgia Gwinnett College students majoring in biology, chemistry, information technology, mathematics and psychology were recently inducted into GGC’s chapter of Beta Kappa Chi National Scientific Honor Society. The GGC chapter’s advisors are Dr. Alvina Atkinson, professor of mathematics, and Dr. Latanya Hammonds-Odie, professor of biology.
GGC’s Drs. Cathy Dyches and Eva Cleveland present at GANE Conference
Dr. Cathy Dyches, professor of nursing, and Dr. Eva Cleveland, assistant professor of health science and Health Sciences Department chair, presented a systematic scoping review entitled, "Bullying Trends and Interventions in Healthcare Higher Education" at the 2024 Georgia Association of Nursing Educators (GANE) Annual Conference. In addition to presenting findings and recommendations for interventions, they will continue this line of research through a mixed methods study.
