Biography

Dr. Shepler was born in Connecticut, but his family moved to Tennessee when he was in high school. He received his B.Sc. in chemistry from the University of Tennessee, where he was introduced to theoretical chemistry while doing undergraduate research. Shepler continued his studies in theoretical chemistry as a graduate student at Washington State University and, then, as a post-doctoral research fellow at Emory University.

The scope of computational chemistry is extremely broad, and in his research Shepler has had the opportunity to work on projects across a wide variety of applications. Past and current projects include work in atmospheric chemistry, astrochemistry, environmental chemistry, fusion energy research, modeling of water, fundamental reaction dynamics and relativistic quantum chemistry.

In addition to his research, Shepler has had the great pleasure to teach general and physical chemistry courses at Washington State University, Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. Shepler is excited to join the faculty at Georgia Gwinnett College, and particularly looks forward to interacting with GGC students in the classroom, as a mentor and through research projects.
