Dr. Kendrick L. Savage
Associate Professor of Mathematics
Biography
Dr. Kendrick L. Savage enjoys mathematics/mathematics education. He is interested in how to get more students motivated to study and do mathematics. He is greatly interested in mathematical motivation and the equity issues many K–12 schools face as compared to others. He specifically spends a great deal of time studying how teachers, parents, the school environment and mathematical anxiety impacts a students' mathematical self-efficacy and their usefulness of mathematics. Savage earned a B.S. in mathematics from The University of Mississippi, an M.S. in mathematics from Mississippi State University, a MATS in teaching from Mississippi State University, and a Ph.D. in mathematics education from Mississippi State University.
Before Joining Georgia Gwinnett College, Savage worked with many undergraduate students at The University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University through programs such as I.M.A.G.E. (Increasing Minority Access to Graduate Education) and the Ronald E. McNair Program. Both programs work to serve minority and first-generation students by offering academic and graduate support and resources. The programs aim to increase the number of students studying STEM and motivate these students to ultimately obtain their doctoral degree in the STEM area. He also worked closely with education students at Mississippi State University in the Dean of Education's Office as an academic advisor and lecturer. Savage was afforded the opportunity to mentor education students, teach education courses, recruit high school students and speak to students about choosing educational fields of study.
Savage is excited to be part of the GGC family and work at a college that places a lot of importance on student success. He loves the interest of the college to develop its faculty and to go to any extreme to provide students with an education to be successful in life. He is currently continuing his work in mathematical motivation, culturally relevant pedagogy and equity in mathematics education to help better serve students.
Savage is a proud native of Mississippi and its southern charm and quality.
