Biography

One of the two original professors of foreign language at GGC, Dr. Kristina Watkins Mormino teaches French classes at all levels offered. An advocate of foreign language education, she has worked with the Georgia Department of Education’s office of World Languages and Global Initiatives and represents GGC on the University System of Georgia’s Foreign Language Academic Advisory Committee, which she is chairing in 2014-2015.

Mormino is also the interim coordinator of GGC’s Global Studies Certification Program. Students who are interested in becoming knowledgeable and confident participants in the global community should definitely contact her to find out more about this exciting program. Additionally, as senior mentor for the School of Liberal Arts, Mormino assists students and faculty members with advising and mentoring questions.

Mormino graduated from Emory University with a Ph.D. in French and a certificate in medieval studies. She specializes in romance hagiography. If you want to know about her research, ask her what romance hagiography is, or for more fun, ask why the only true virgin is a dead virgin. Alternatively, you can ask her the best way to kill a goose for medieval cookery. If you want to know about Mormino's teaching style, ask her any of the following: "How is learning different in college than in high school?" "What’s so great about mistakes?" "Why are French people sexy?"
