Biography
Dr. Kurtz graduated from Georgia State University with a doctorate in biological sciences and a concentration in microbiology. After a brief post doctoral appointment at Georgia State University, she went to work at the Georgia Environmental Protection Department (EPD) in the Drinking Water Compliance program. After leaving the EPD, she was hired as the microbiologist for the DeKalb County Water and Sewer Department. In 1999, Kurtz was hired as a lecturer for the Microbiology Department at the University of Georgia. In this position, she was responsible for coordinating all of the introductory microbiology laboratories as well as teaching various microbiology courses.
In 2006, Kurtz became one of ten charter faculty at Georgia Gwinnett College. At GGC, she has taught many different biology courses, as well as GGC 1000 (First Year Seminar). Kurtz's research interests include environmental microbiology, indoor air quality/environmental mycology and biology education.
