Professor of Information Technology
Biography
Dr. Lissa Pollacia is a professor of information technology in the School of Science and Technology. She holds a master's degree in both mathematics and computer science, and a Ph.D. in computer science. She has many years of teaching experience, has served as principal investigator for numerous research grants, and published many journal articles and papers. In addition, she serves as advisor for the GGC student chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals.
She has coached several teams of students who have won the national championship in Database Design contest at AITP National Collegiate Conference (NCC) and the United States Information Technology Collegiate Conference (USITCC). She received the AITP National award for outstanding advisor, called the “Faculty Advisor Extra Mile” and the CompTIA “Outstanding Faculty Advisor” Award in 2019.
Other awards include the Mildred Hart Bailey Award for Outstanding Research, Excellence in Teaching Award at Northwestern State University and “Outstanding Student Engagement” GGC Award for 2018.
Pollacia focuses on improving student engagement outside of the classroom and in preparing students for transitioning from the academic to the professional environment.
