Biography
Dr. Luke Ryan is a 19th century American historian who joined the GGC faculty in 2011. He has received research grants from the Kansas State Historical Society, Newberry Library, Huntington Library and American Philosophical Society. His current book project focuses on the lives of several Native American people who negotiated removal, the opening of Kansas, and the Civil War, leaving lasting legacies that would affect U.S. Indian policy and tribal survival. At GGC, Ryan teaches the U.S. History Survey, Civil War and Reconstruction, and special topics courses on the American West and Native American History. Beyond academia, Ryan enjoys working for the National Park Service seasonally during the summers and is an active outdoor enthusiast.
