Biography
In the classroom, Dr. Malloy aims to have fun and bring in relevant examples and current events to help engage students in science. Regardless of one's career path, everyone needs to have at least a basic knowledge of science in order to make informed decisions about their everyday lives. She strives to help her students learn applicable science that they can "bring home."
Her research interests are focused on bird conservation in Gwinnett County. She is currently working on a project with brown-headed nuthatches, a small backyard bird that nests in cavities of pine trees.
Before coming to GGC, Malloy earned her degrees at The University of Georgia. During her graduate school and postdoctoral position there, she helped develop and teach the avian biology maymester study abroad program in Costa Rica. She also co-taught an introduction to birds course and co-authored a textbook, “Birds in Our Lives: Dwelling in an Avian World,” to accompany the course.
