Biography
Dr. Higgins graduated from Lander University in Greenwood, S.C. in 2004 and was accepted to the doctoral program in molecular, cell and developmental biology at the University of South Carolina. She defended her dissertation, entitled "Characterization of the Wound-induced Signaling Pathway in Tomato" in 2009.
Her teaching interests include botany, embryology/developmental biology, biotechnology, and cell and molecular biology. Her current research interests involve plant/insect interactions and the effects of required research on retention of women and minorities in the STEM disciplines.
