Georgia Gwinnett College’s (GGC) Mathematics and Statistics department within the School of Science and Technology is pleased to announce that the eighth annual Olifer Math Competition for children in grades 1-8 will be held Saturday, March 22.

This math competition is a celebration for our future STEM majors. Children are natural problem solvers and like to think outside of the box. The problems used in this contest are designed to inspire them and this kind of thinking. They are different from what they usually have at school. Solving such problems and meeting other children in a collegiate environment makes this competition an unforgettable event.

The registration is only $10 per participant, and seats are limited. For each grade, the first three places at the competition will receive special math giveaways and all participants will receive a recognition for participation. Please register your child to participate and refer to the flyer for additional detail.

This competition was founded and organized by GGC’s colleague and friend, Dr. Andrei Olifer. He was passionate about teaching and passing his love for mathematics to a younger generation. He died in fall 2019, but his legacy will be carried on through this annual competition. Andrei’s wife, Svetlana, also worked at GGC as a math tutor in the Academic Enhancement Center for many years. She brought so much joy through her work with GGC students. Sadly, she passed away a year and a half after Andrei’s passing. Andrei and Svetlana are dearly missed and always remembered by the GGC math community.
