Georgia Gwinnett College fall enrollment up for seventh consecutive semester
Once again, enrollment at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) continues its annual upward trajectory. For the fall semester, the number of students is projected to climb 2.1% overall, which means GGC will likely enroll well over 12,000 students. This marks seven consecutive semesters that enrollment has grown.
While nearly 75 percent of the students at GGC hail from Gwinnett County, there are plenty of coming from other states in the U.S., plus 116 countries. The top five countries outside of the U.S. that students are from are Vietnam, Nigeria, Venezuela, Mexico and India.

First day of class: Georgia Gwinnett College students start fall semester
It’s the first day of fall classes at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) as thousands of students make their way across campus.
“I’m thrilled to see our campus vibrant with the return of our faculty, staff and students,” said GGC President Jann L. Joseph.
Along with finding their classes, students are exploring the campus, discovering where to purchase books, grab a snack and catch up with their friends.
For first-year students Camila Pineda and Jocelyn Tobar, the day started and ended before noon.
“We only had two classes today,” said Pineda, who plans to study psychology. “I really like that there

Georgia Gwinnett College prepares for new school year
At Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC), work is well under way to welcome new and returning students for the start of the college’s new academic year on Monday, Aug. 12.
“Summer is the best time for us to make improvements on campus because it causes the least disruption,” said Terrance Schneider, associate vice president of Facilities and chief of police at GGC. “We have been busy.”
When students move into campus housing Aug. 8 and 9, they will find new outdoor furnishings and enhanced landscaping. An expanded vestibule area is being constructed at the front entrance of the largest residence hall

Georgia Gwinnett College stays ‘chill’ while reducing electric consumption
During the dog days of summer, the temperatures soar, and so do electric bills. At Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC), the buildings remain comfortably cool thanks to a project that started 10 years ago.
GGC’s initial campus buildings were constructed with each using individual air conditioning units located adjacent to the buildings. In early 2015, GGC completed a study to coordinate the campus utility systems with the planned architectural growth. The study focused on developing reliable, energy efficient and sustainable systems for cooling the entire campus.
“The study determined a centralized

Georgia Gwinnett College students study abroad in Germany
Lebenserfahrung: Experience of a lifetime
A group of nine Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) students, a professor and a staff member from GGC’s School of Business (SBA) recently flew over nine hours and several time zones to reach Germany. Their mission: spend 12 days immersed in German cultural, business and leadership activities.
The study abroad experience was made possible thanks to a $25,000 grant to the Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation from The Halle Foundation, Atlanta. This is the second grant GGC has received for study abroad to Germany. The first grant was to visit Germany and design
Vacation vs. work vacation
Summertime is synonymous with vacation time. Many Americans, however, struggle to take vacation.
Georgia Gwinnett College’s (GGC) Dr. David Ludden, a psychology professor and the Psychology Department chair, said that vacations have become work vacations.
“It’s easy to think, ‘They need me’ because it gives you a sense of importance, and that makes it hard not to be checking and responding to work email while on vacation,” he said. “There is even an expectation that you should answer work emails and calls. We are a consumer culture, which is marked with a need to make more money to buy more

Georgia Gwinnett College summer chemistry program gives high school students invaluable experiences
“All right, time to get to work!” Those were the words of Malachi McClain, 15, of Dacula, who skipped the beach this summer in favor of conducting research in a college chemistry lab. A rising junior at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology, McClain is part of a student cohort from four Gwinnett County high schools who are participating in the Project SEED program at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC).
The American Chemical Society’s Project SEED summer program brings students to college and university campuses for eight to 10 weeks at host institutions like GGC, where they

Georgia Gwinnett College’s FAFSA center now open through August 1
Due to demand, the Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Center will remain open through August 1.
