Georgia Gwinnett College’s FAFSA center now open through August 1

Due to demand, the Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Center will remain open through August 1.

“When we first opened the center at the end of April to help students start or complete their FAFSA application, it was to help students navigate the process,” said Kimberly Jordan, GGC ‘s executive director of Financial Aid Services.

“The response has steadily increased with more students stopping by for assistance and to ask questions.”

The GGC FAFSA Completion Center is conveniently located on campus. Since its opening in April, staff members have assisted over 400 students.

The FAFSA is critical in determining how much federal aid eligibility students will have for their education. The U.S. Department of Education released a streamlined FAFSA form at the end of 2023 with the goal of simplifying the process, but there have been challenges since its launch.
In addition to helping students navigate the process, Jordan said there has been an added benefit.

“Our FAFSA Center has helped us bring an even more personalized experience for our students,” she said. “We’ve had the opportunity to work with them and get to know them. That has been especially rewarding for us.”

Jordan added that there have been other students that are attending other schools coming to the center for help.

“We’re glad to help students through this process so they can start or continue their academic journey without stress or worry,” she said.

GGC Financial Aid Services must have the student’s completed financial aid file, including a FAFSA form and all requested documentation, by July 6 for students to receive notification of their award in time to make tuition payments. Jordan said they will continue processing all applications received after the deadline but can’t guarantee that aid will be in place for students to pay fees.

The GGC FAFSA Completion Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until August 1. These days and hours are subject to change based on need. The center is located on campus in the Student Center (Building E), Room 2161.
