Georgia Gwinnett College goes on lockdown due to off-campus shooting
At 10:39 a.m., Jan. 28, Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) sent notice to the campus community of an active threat near campus and went into soft lockdown, requiring staff, faculty and students to remain inside building and take cover.
At 10:40 a.m. GGC went into hard lockdown, requiring students, faculty and staff to lock and barricade doors.
Gwinnett County law enforcement advised there was a shooting at Sugar Mill Apartments, located nearby, but not on GGC’s campus. The suspect is described as a black male in a white t-shirt and dirty sweatpants. The suspect, who fled the scene, was being tracked by law enforcement.
At 11:29 a.m. officials sent an all-clear message and GGC resumed normal operations. As a precaution, police have increased campus patrols. GGC students, faculty and staff reported no injuries.
