GGC produces more than $520 million in economic impact
According to an economic impact study released yesterday by the University System of Georgia (USG), Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) contributed more than $520 million to the economy of Gwinnett County and the Atlanta metropolitan area during fiscal year 2019.
This figure includes GGC’s output impact, which is 6.1 percent higher than the previous year.
Including its capital outlay for construction projects, GGC has generated about $4.3 billion in cumulative economic impact since the college has been included in the study. This year’s report reveals that GGC also is responsible for the creation of 3,950 jobs, of which 725 are on campus and 3,225 in the community.
“We are proud of the role that GGC plays in supporting the strong economy of Gwinnett and beyond,” said Dr. Jann L. Joseph, president. “We value being a key contributor to the economic health of Gwinnett and our neighbors. In addition to faculty, staff and current students who live, learn, and serve here, we are proud of our more than 8,000 alumni who also make their own impact on their communities.”
The study was commissioned by the USG and conducted by the University of Georgia’s Selig Center for Economic Growth at the Terry College of Business. It analyzed data collected from July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019, to measure the USG’s economic impact on the state.
