New Belonging Center on campus to promote engagement, dialogue, community
Last week, officials cut the ribbon on Georgia Gwinnett College’s (GGC) long-awaited Belonging Center. Located in the B building on GGC’s campus, the center, which seats up to 80 people, is equipped with ceiling-mounted speakers, display screens and a podium with microphone access.
“It’s perfect for presentations, discussions and larger gatherings,” said Tia Lloyd, director of Human Resources and Employee Engagement and Chair of the Global Community Advisory Council, formerly known as the Diversity Advisory Council.
“The Belonging Center was designed with care and intention to be a place where everyone, regardless of background or identity, can come together and feel seen, heard and valued. It offers a range of environments to meet the needs of our community.”
World history major Amanda Ashley said the space will be “a hub for conversation, interaction and even self-discovery.” Ashley, who is set to graduate from GGC in spring 2025, serves as a student representative on the college’s Global Community Advisory Council. She said the space is important in cultivating student engagement and inclusivity.
“I look forward to being in this space with my fellow students as we learn from each other and celebrate our global community,” she said.
Dr. Jann L. Joseph said the Belonging Center coincides with two of the college’s strategic goals to “expand academic access, engagement and success” and to “enhance and cultivate GGC’s rich global community
“When we intentionally create environments where every individual feels embraced and empowered, incredible things happen,” she said. “I truly believe that by working together – whether you’re here today or supporting us from afar - we’ll deepen our understanding of one another and experience genuine cross-cultural growth.”
The Belonging Center is located in B-1000 and can be booked via the 25Live room reservation system (login required).
