GGC alumna Evelyn B. Calina wins the 2021 American Chemical Society Undergraduate Student Award in Environmental Chemistry
Evelyn B. Calina, '21, biology, has won the 2021 American Chemical Society Undergraduate Student Award in Environmental Chemistry for her outstanding contributions in chemistry and environmental science. She is the fifth GGC student in the GGC Environmental Research Cluster to win this prestigious, national award, which is won by about 20 students per year. Calina conducted multiple research projects, culminating in co-authorship on “Locally Sustainable Biodiesel Production from Waste Cooking Oil and Grease Using a Deep Eutectic Solvent: Characterization, Thermal Properties, and Blend Performance,” with GGC student colleagues Lorraine Kadima, '19, chemistry, and Carlove Bourdeau, '19, chemistry, along with Drs. Neelam Khan, Sang H. Park and David P. Pursell of GGC, and external collaborator Dr. Charles Warren Edmunds from PerkinElmer. The article was published in ACS Omega, 2021, 6, 9204-9212.
