
New Belonging Center on campus to promote engagement, dialogue, community
Last week, officials cut the ribbon on Georgia Gwinnett College’s (GGC) long-awaited Belonging Center. Located in the B building on GGC’s campus, the center, which seats up to 80 people, is equipped with ceiling-mounted speakers, display screens and a podium with microphone access.

Future nurses in the making: Georgia Gwinnett College hosts high school students
Georgia needs nurses stat. That’s medical-speak for immediately.
Georgia Gwinnett College’s (GGC) nursing program faculty welcomed about 50 students from Discovery High School in Lawrenceville to campus to learn more about nursing careers. The students, who are in a health sciences concentration, learned about being a nurse and had the opportunity to put their skills to work in the program’s clinical learning space and simulation lab. The students also learned about careers in public health and patient navigation in GGC’s health science program.

Crossover Series gives students a multifaceted view of issues, options
Georgia Gwinnett College's (GGC) interdisciplinary Crossover Speaker Series is offering students an opportunity to explore topics that go beyond their academic majors. Hosted by the School of Business (SBA), the series launched in early October with a focus on cybersecurity in recognition of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Georgia Gwinnett College’s (GGC) Grizzlyfest, the college’s unique version of homecoming, checked those two boxes and more. Celebrating GGC’s global community, more than 300 attendees enjoyed food from around the world, lots of activities and live entertainment.
Leading up to Grizzlyfest were a week’s worth of student activities, including a Sneaker Ball, students vs. staff kickball game, a bonfire with s’mores, a Greek Fest and tailgate, and a club Grizzly rodeo. Students also selected homecoming royalty, with Coreon Johnson named homecoming king and Gaby Sifuentes

Georgia Gwinnett College discovers bacteria in Joro spider
Ten years ago, Joro spiders traveled from Asia to the U.S. Georgia is where they were first spotted. What scientists know is they are most visible starting in September. By mid-October, they are laying eggs that are within a white silk sac. Each sac, typically attached to a flat surface like leaves and tree bark, contains as many as 500 eggs.
What hasn’t been known is if they carry any diseases that could harm humans.

Preparing for a Port Strike
Dr. Sanjaya Mayadunne, associate professor of decision sciences and management information systems at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC), said even though the port strike only lasted 48 hours, it does offer good news for suppliers and consumers.
“At this point, consumers need to stay calm,” he said. “Supply chain managers are smart and have options to minimize disruptions.”

The Three R’s and SEL
At Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC), students in the School of Education (SOE) are learning how to be teachers who make an impact in the classroom in academics. This fall, GGC launched a new course that brings another important element to teaching that benefits students both personally and professionally through knowledge and skills that come with social emotional learning (SEL).
This one-credit, semester-long course focuses on educating future teachers about the various competencies of social and emotional learning such as self-awareness, self-management, self-care, responsible decision-making

Georgia Gwinnett College receives $400,000 for scholarships from Georgia Banking Company
Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) received a $400,000 gift from Georgia Banking Company to provide scholarships to students studying exercise science and wellness.
“This is part of our own culture to support organizations that have a positive impact on the community,” said Bartow Morgan Jr., CEO of Georgia Banking Company, and a trustee for GGC. “In the case of Georgia Gwinnett College, the impact is generational.”
